Consecration Ceremony, the Rain of Virtue and Goodness, Related to the Great Ritual of the Colored Sand Mandala of the Thirteen-Deity Buffalo-Faced Vajrabhairava, the Wrathful Manifestation of Manjushri

This ritual is performed from the 11th of the 7th month of Tibetan calendar with the earth ritual of the Thirteen-Deity Bhairava Mandala, followed by the Consecration Ceremony, the Rain of Virtue and Goodness, in relation to the actual Thirteen-Deity Vajrabhairava ritual, and finally the supplementary fire puja. The benefits of this ritual are:
Je Tsongkhapa says:

The major impediments of the fortunate ones practicing the path to liberation are,
The ignorance destroying their mind and the Lord of Death destroying their body.
Manjushri is supreme in granting the wisdom destroying the ignorance,
And the most accomplished one in destroying the lord of death is Bhairava.
Like thus said, Vajrabhairava is more superior than other deities through five major qualities, particularly in granting and enhancing wisdom, and in remedying all outer, inner and other obstacles to our life.

In this regard, it further says:
One who possessed five qualities is Vajrabhairava,
Who, the wealth of three jewels which normally takes three innumerable eons to accomplish, could bestow it in this life of the degenerate era.

Hence, the unsurpassed tantra is even rarer than the Buddha.
Thus this verse articulated the quintessential instruction of all paths. By studying and contemplating on such fine gold like precious verses of tantra and reciting the rituals clearly in accordance with one’s pledge and precepts and remembering their meanings, if you could practice paths inclusively, you will be compassionately guided by the peaceful and wrathful guru Manjushri throughout your future lives. It is the most perfect and correct method to extract the essence out of our precious human body to put continuous effort in the practice of this outstanding and flawless path. Like the example of a blind man trying to touch a cow’s tail, it is extremely important to try to practice and create karmic connection with this heart essence of the second Buddha.

In short, by the virtue of practicing this path, you will be compassionately guided by this meditational deity throughout your future lives. Temporarily you will not encounter obstacles to your dharma practice and your obscurations and impurities will be dispelled, and you will swiftly complete the accumulation of two merits. It will help the practitioners of tantra to restore their broken precepts and enhanced them, at the time of death, you will be guided by Dakas and Dakinis to the outer and inner celestial realms, and ultimately it will help you to swiftly attain the state of the perfect enlightenment.

This is written by Master of Buddhist Tantric Philosophy, Thupten Lhundup, on the 12th of the 4th month of Tibetan calendar on the behest of our monastery’s treasurer.
